private chat for the chain

// 01 — identity

Your wallet is your name

Connect MetaMask or any WalletConnect-compatible wallet. Sign a one-time SIWE message. No email, no password, no recovery questions — just the keypair you already own.

  • 550+ wallets supported via WalletConnect
  • Address is identity. Nothing else leaves you.

// 02 — encryption

AES-256-GCM, end-to-end

Every room is a 32-byte symmetric key, generated on your device. Messages are sealed before they leave you. Even the relay nodes carrying them see only ciphertext.

  • Per-room AES-256-GCM key
  • Encrypted DMs ratcheted per wallet pair
  • Optional wallet allow-list — closed channels

// 03 — no backend

Falling past the servers

No database. No subpoena. No plug to pull. Every message gossips across the Waku P2P network — encrypted, ephemeral, owned by nobody.

What Abyss does

A full chat experience that lives entirely on the open network. No accounts — your wallet is the only key. Lose access to your wallet's private keys and you lose access to every room and message tied to that address. No moderators to bribe. No servers to seize.

// 05 — protocol descent

Five steps to disappear

  1. 01

    Connect wallet

    Tap connect. Approve a one-time Sign-In With Ethereum message. Your address is your identity — no servers see anything else.

  2. 02

    Spin up a room

    Your client generates a random 32-byte AES-256-GCM key. That key is the room. Its hash becomes the Waku content topic.

  3. 03

    Share a 6-char code

    Codes like ABC-123 derive a handshake key. The room key is encrypted with it and published to a join topic.

  4. 04

    Joiners decrypt and enter

    A joiner pulls the join topic from Waku Store, decrypts the room key, and is now equal to everyone else in the room.

  5. 05

    Talk freely

    Messages gossiped over Waku, decrypted on each member's device. DMs get their own per-pair topic.

// 06 — community token

$ABYSS — the chat is the community

Abyss is for the people who already understand why decentralization and privacy matter. The $ABYSS token aligns the community that hosts rooms, runs nodes, and ships features.

Holder rooms

Token-gated channels for $ABYSS holders. Wallet-based allow-list means no Discord bots, no Telegram scams — just verified bag-holders.

Run a node, earn

Anyone can run a Waku relay. The token aligns incentives so the people keeping the lights on get rewarded.

Govern the build

The roadmap belongs to the people using the app. Holders vote on features, fees, and which rooms get promoted.

// 09 — faq

Questions, asked and answered

Is Abyss really decentralized?

Yes. There is no backend server holding your messages. Every message travels over the Waku peer-to-peer network, encrypted end-to-end with a symmetric key that only members of the room hold.

What is the $ABYSS coin?

$ABYSS is the community token that powers the Abyss ecosystem. It is designed to align the people who run nodes, build features, and host rooms. Token launch details will be published on this page when the token goes live.

Do I need to give an email or phone number?

No. Your Ethereum wallet address is your identity. You sign in by signing a SIWE message — Sign-In With Ethereum — which proves you control the wallet without revealing anything else.

Can anyone read my messages?

Only people who hold the room key can decrypt the channel. Messages are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they ever leave your device. Even the relay nodes carrying them see only ciphertext.

Which wallets are supported?

Any wallet supported by WalletConnect — that's 550+ wallets including MetaMask, Trust Wallet, OKX Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, Bitget, and more. MetaMask browser extension also connects directly.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Abyss is a PWA, installable on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux. Add to home screen and it behaves like a native app — offline cache, notifications, full-screen UI.

What happens if I lose my wallet?

Your wallet is your identity. If you lose access to your seed phrase you lose access to your rooms — that is the trade-off you make for a system with no central account recovery. Protect your seed phrase like the key it is.
